Syncor Alt automatically generates AI-powered alt text for your product images. Alt text improves your store’s SEO and accessibility by describing images to search engines and screen readers. Unlike generic AI alt text tools, our algorithm is built around W3C and WCAG guidelines — it intelligently categorizes each product image to understand its role on the page, then generates alt text that accurately conveys the right information for shoppers, naturally incorporating SEO keywords. All processing runs in the background, so your store is never interrupted.
Currently, the app generates alt text for product images only. We don’t yet support theme images, blog images, or other image types.
We use a credit-based system instead of subscriptions. Each AI-generated alt text costs 1 credit. Purchase credits in packs that never expire:
• Free Credits: 50 credits (automatically included when you install) • Spark Pack: $5 for 350 credits ($0.014 per alt text) • Boost Pack: $25 for 2,000 credits ($0.013 per alt text) • Surge Pack: $50 for 5,000 credits ($0.010 per alt text) • Blaze Pack: $130 for 15,000 credits ($0.009 per alt text)
No, your credits never expire. Use them at your own pace.
Credits are non-refundable, but they never expire, so you can use them whenever you need them.
The Images table is a centralized view of all your product images and their alt texts in one place. You can browse your entire image library, see which images have alt text and which are missing it, edit alt text directly inline, and generate alt text for individual images — all without needing to create a full bulk generation job.
Yes. Click the Edit button next to any image to edit its alt text inline. Once you’re happy with the change, save it and it will be applied to your store immediately.
Yes. From the Images table, each image has a Generate button. This lets you generate alt text for one image at a time using the same AI algorithm as the bulk generation feature — no need to create a background task for individual updates.
Creating a task is simple:
- Give your task a descriptive name (e.g., ‘Summer Collection Alt Text’)
- Choose your scope: All Products, Selected Products, or Selected Collections
- Select which product status you want to include: Active, Draft, Archive
- Set your preferences: • Alt Text Status: Skip images that already have alt text, or generate for every image • Autosave: Automatically apply alt text to your store, or review them first before saving
The bulk generation page has a Credits widget that shows your available credits. You can click ‘Calculate Credits’ to estimate exactly how many credits your current selections will require. If your available credits are not enough to cover the job, the app will warn you — and the job will fail if you proceed without topping up. Use this to plan your credit usage before running large jobs.
The task runs in the background, so you can close the app and continue with other work. You’ll receive an email notification when the task completes (or if it fails). All generated alt texts are saved in our system for your review.
There’s no limit to how many images you can include in a single task. The app processes everything in the background using asynchronous task processing.
Yes, but keep in mind not to enable auto-save on each task as it will result in alt texts collision
You’ll receive an email notification if a task fails. You can retry failed tasks with one click, and you won’t be charged additional credits for retrying (failed jobs don’t charge credits). Note: if a task fails due to Insufficient Credits, you’ll need to top up your credits before retrying.
If you disable Autosave when creating a task, the alt text will be generated and saved in our system but won’t be applied to your Shopify store. You can review them on the task detail page and click ‘Apply Alt Texts’ to apply all changes at once when you’re ready.
Yes. For tasks that are in ‘For Review’ status (i.e., Autosave was disabled), you can edit individual alt texts directly on the task detail page before applying them. Click the Edit button next to any generated alt text, make your changes, and confirm. You can also regenerate any alt text you’re not satisfied with — additional credits are charged for regeneration on a review task.
Auto-Generate Alt Texts is a setting that, when enabled, automatically generates alt text for all images of a new product the moment it’s added to your store. This keeps your image library fully covered without any manual effort — it’s alt text on autopilot.
Go to Settings and toggle on the ‘Enable auto-generate alt texts’ setting. Once enabled, every new product added to your store will have its images processed automatically. Credits are consumed per image, the same as manual generation.
You can toggle on ‘Skip images with existing alt text’ in Settings. When enabled, the auto-generate feature will only process images that are missing alt text, leaving your existing alt texts untouched.
Backup and Restore lets you export all your current alt text data — namely product name, image ID, alt text, and image URL — to a CSV file. You can use this CSV to restore your alt texts at any time. It acts as a safety net, especially before running a bulk generation job, so you can always roll back to a previous version of your alt texts if needed.
Go to Backup and Restore and click ‘Backup Data.’ This will queue an export task. Once ready, the CSV will be emailed to your account inbox and will also appear under Recent Backups on the same page for easy download.
Go to the Restore tab on the Backup and Restore page, upload your exported CSV file, and submit. The app will read the image IDs and alt texts from the CSV and re-apply them to your store in the background. You’ll receive a confirmation email once the restore is complete. Note: restoring will overwrite your current alt texts, so we recommend taking a fresh backup first.
Yes. Download the Bulk Edit template from the Restore tab, fill in your own alt texts in the CSV, and upload it. This is a good option if you prefer writing your own alt texts and want to apply them all at once.
Yes, Backup and Restore is completely free and does not consume any credits.
Our algorithm goes beyond simple image description. It uses a proprietary, closed-source algorithm with a decision tree for determining what alt text to write and how — producing alt text that is accurate, accessibility-compliant, and SEO-optimized, in line with W3C and WCAG guidelines.
Product images are informational images: they exist to give visual context to shoppers browsing a PDP. Their alt text shouldn’t repeat the product description or list every visual detail — it should deliver the same shopping context as the image itself. Our algorithm is purpose-built for this.
Most AI alt text tools simply describe what’s in the image. Our algorithm follows W3C and WCAG guidelines and uses intelligent decision-making to generate alt text that fits each image’s actual role in the shopping experience — conveying product identity, variant context, usage scenarios, or detail shots — without over-describing or repeating what’s already written on the page. The result is cleaner, more accurate alt text that benefits both accessibility and SEO.
Yes! In your app settings, you can customize:
• Language: Choose from multiple languages including English, Spanish, and more • Brand Description: Add context about your brand to inform the AI • Custom Prompt: Provide specific instructions for alt text generation • Blocked Phrases: Specify words or phrases to avoid in alt text
No. All processing happens on our servers in the background. Your store performance won’t be affected.
Notifications are sent to the primary email you specify in your Settings. You can also add CC email addresses to receive notifications.
